TMJ / Jaw Tension Relief

Why TMJ Tension Happens

Jaw tension rarely comes from the jaw alone. Common contributors include:

  • clenching or grinding (especially during sleep)
  • stress that keeps the nervous system on high alert
  • tightness through the neck and shoulders
  • shallow breathing patterns
  • forward‑head posture
  • tension in the upper back or chest
  • habits like chewing on one side or holding tension in the face

When these areas stay tight, the jaw often becomes the “pressure point” where everything shows up.
